Titled Kente: Ghanian Textile pattern

These stunning ceramic plates are inspired by the Ghanaian Kente.  The Kente pattern is arguably one of the most recognizable African Art patterns. The word kente comes from the Akan dialect Asante, which means "basket" and refers to its basket-like pattern. We couldn’t have had our collection without it.

The Kente colors used in the African painting here are Maroon (meaning healing), Yellow (meaning preciousness and fertility), Orange (meaning royalty and wealth), and Blue (signifies peace and harmony).  Add some color to your meals or your home decor.

Kente usage in African American culture:

Kente cloth holds deep cultural significance in African American communities as a symbol of African heritage, pride, and identity.

Here's how it’s used:
Heritage & Pride: Kente represents a connection to African roots, especially for African Americans reclaiming their cultural identity, often tied to movements likeBlack Pride and Pan-Africanism.

Graduations: Kente stoles are worn by students during graduations as symbols of academic achievement and cultural pride.

Religious Events: Kente is used in African American churches during special services, celebrating spirituality and heritage.

Ceremonies: It’s worn at weddings, rites of passage, and Kwanzaa celebrations, symbolizing unity, prosperity, and African traditions.

Activism: Worn during protests or political events, Kente represents resistance, solidarity, and liberation.

Fashion: Kente is seen in everyday fashion, pop culture, and red-carpet events, promoting African aesthetics and pride.

Education: Featured in museums and cultural programs, Kente helps teach African history and its influence on African American identity.

In these ways, Kente remains a vital symbol of African American connection to their ancestral roots, cultural pride, and expression.

The Finest Dinnerware.

The Kente dinnerware is my 4th acquisition from Oyelakindinners. I invited 7 guests for Thanksgiving this year. I told my guest that which ever plate you select and eat out, is the plate that you can take home. My guest were beyond happy. The Ebo Asi plates were a favorite among my guests. I hope this patter comes back. I only have 2 left.
The dinnerware are easy to handle and are not heavy plates. I love the way they look and feel. They are truly beautiful and I cannot wait to see your next dinnerware!
